5 - Crarae
Crarae is a magical woodland garden overlooking Loch Fyne in Argyll. A dramatic gorge cascades down the hill through the centre of the garden - centred around this is a beautiful collection of trees, shrubs and flowering plants, including many species from the Himalayas laid out in an informal ‘natural’ style.
Crarae holds a national collection of southern beech trees. These large forest trees come from Australia, New Zealand and southern South America where they are an important component of native forests.
They make beautiful specimens here at Crarae where the mild damp climate is ideal for them.
